WORK HISTORY:



Fruit Industry:



- 1976 - May 1990: Board Member SPC LTD.



- Appointed Chairman of Directors in 1982 when the company was facing a $5 million dollar loss, the resignation of the Chairman of Directors and a $120 million “mountain” in accumulated old debt.



- Haset undertook a very close hands-on role until the crisis was over and within 18 months the bottom line was improved by $7 million.



- From 1982 - May 1990 the net value of SPC assets increased from near insolvency to over $100 million.· In the same period sales grew from $75 million to $170 million without increasing the workforce of 600 employees and 900 seasonal employees. In 1990 over 2,000 families relied on SPC for their livelihood.



- In August 1988 the Managing Director of SPC was seriously injured in a head-on car accident and forced to retire. The board unanimously asked Haset to take on the role of Executive Chairman, a role he carried out until February 1990



Key Achievements:



- 1982 - 90: SPC reduced it’s debt from $120 million down to $65 million. In addition it invested $20 million into upgrading plant, equipment and buildings to make it the most up to date facility of its kind in the world.



- Production of fruit in it’s own juice was introduced and became an outstanding success, moving to well over 75% of the market whilst dramatically reducing the $5 million yearly bill on sugar (for syrup).



- Sale of fresh produce to Japan was introduced in conjunction with Nitcheri the giant Japanese Corporation (over $2.5US billion turnover): jointly developing a strategy to overcome Japan’s trade barriers. Sales for fresh asparagus alone from 1985 - 1989 jumped from 10 metric tonnes to 1,000 metric tonnes, all air freighted with a bottom line profit of over $750,000.00 in 1989.



- 1989 - 1990: the Board developed the (subsequently) much publicised Enterprise Agreement.



- 1982 - 88 Haset was SPC’s member on the Australian Canned Fruits Corporation. Haset represented the ACFC in the USA, successfully preventing a “Dumping Tariff Levy” on Australian canned fruit.



- By 1990 SPC exported to 72 different countries and exports constituted about 50% of total sales.



National Transport Federation Ltd. (NTF):



- 1986 - 1991: Honorary Chairman of Directors of NTF. NTF was established by Haset and Goulburn Valley Transport operators to ensure transport employers of all sizes were properly represented in the industrial arena and with governments (Cw. and state). The charter was to nationally provide better service, increased productivity, fair pay and much better safety in the work place and on the roads.







Achievements while with NTF:



- Introduction of speed limiters (100kph) on all articulated vehicles throughout Australia.



- National system of driver registration and accreditation.

- “Black Spot” elimination a top priority on road works.



- A national and state system of wage awards for all transport operators based on productivity and enterprise agreements.



- NTF merged with LDRTA to form “NATROAD” and now represents over 90% of transport employers.



Other Achievements:



- 1990 - Haset has continued to perform consulting work for a select group of clients in the areas of corporate restructuring and strategic planning.



- 2000 - Appointed to the Board of Directors of Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Pty. Ltd. and elected Deputy Chairman of Directors. This very successful family company is based in Bundaberg and has now embarked on an exciting era of innovation and global growth.

Monash University (1964 - 1969) · Bachelor of Laws. · Bachelor of Jurisprudence. Special emphasis on commercial, corporate, international law, economics, history and political philosophy.



Health:



Excellent. Haset is a staunch believer in personal fitness, pace walking 3 mornings per week, and working out in a well equipped gymnasium 4 mornings per week.



Recreation:



Pace walking, gym, tennis, golf, scrabble and travel.
